Winter wedding at the Thames Rowing Club

My last wedding of 2019 was just after Christmas on 28th December. Christmas trees and fairy lights were still up making the world look pretty, twinkly and festive. It was chilly but not snowing outside, and even though it was warm inside Alice and her bridesmaids still wrapped up in their raindeer and snowwoman onesies for bridal prep!

The wedding ceremony took place at Epsom Methodist Church. Alice looked stunning in her beaded wedding dress, while Jamie wore a grey tweed suit and a tartan print tie. The ceremony was followed by drinks and cake in a large room at the Church before everyone climbed aboard a vintage London bus to take them to the reception.

The wedding reception took place at the Thames Rowing Club. Unsurprisingly located on the bank of the Thames in Putney, this fabulous event space has glorious views of the river and a balcony that would be great in the summertime. Since this was a winter wedding it was dark by the time we arrived in Putney, but we still popped out to get some couple portraits by the river before the rest of the guests arrived.

This was a wonderfully laid back wedding with lots of mingling time set aside. They had hired a fantastic acoustic band who played a whole range of brilliant classic tunes while moving in amongst the guests as they had their drinks and canapés. They were brilliant fun and you couldn’t help but start singing along and dancing. Alice and Jamie also made time for a few informal speeches just before everyone went to sit down for the wedding breakfast.

After dinner the band was back to get everyone on the dance floor. Everyone got involved straight away, it was brilliant! I snuck off with Alice and Jamie for a few minutes just to get some more portraits outside, but then it was straight back onto the packed dance floor for the rest of the evening.

What a fun and laid back wedding! And little did I know that it would be the last I would do for what feels like such a long time. It’s such a shame that so many people are having to postpone their weddings until a later date because of the Coronavirus crisis. I’ve been working hard with my clients to find suitable new dates for later this year and in 2021. It will still be a wonderful day of celebration, it may just end up looking slightly different to how you expected. Here’s to lots more fabulous wedding celebrations when this is all over!
