Wedding at the Pergola & Hill Gardens and St Barts Brewery

Wedding at the Pergola & Hill Gardens

This wedding was something rather special. I had been to the Pergola and Hill Gardens before and thought it was a stunning place, but I really had no idea that you could get married there. It’s an incredible location for a wedding ceremony! As lovely as September weddings can be, I think Jo and James got very lucky with their Indian summer weather. In London you never know when wintery weather will appear but honestly it couldn’t have been better! There were blue skies and warm breezes, and a location that could easily pass for the Mediterranean with stone pillars, winding vines and dappled sunlight.

One of the couple’s close friends was wedding celebrant for the day. This was such a wonderful idea to make the ceremony even more personal! She did a fantastic job and it was a beautiful ceremony which also included a few readings and poems from other members of the wedding party. These guys had all gone to so much effort to make Jo and James’ wedding ceremony really special. There was so much warmth, love and humour throughout.

Wedding reception at St Barts Brewery

After being surrounded by the lush greens of Hampstead Heath, the reception venue made for quite a change in environment. St Barts Brewery is a pub next to Smithfield Market. It’s got a real industrial, warehouse feel to it. With it’s long trestle tables, massive windows across two walls and an upstairs bar level/balcony, it’s perfect for a laidback London wedding reception.

Jo and James had brewed their own pale ale, and also made some rhubarb gin for the favours. The wedding menu was a fusion of French and English cuisines to reflect Jo and James’ respective backgrounds. There was a nod to Jo’s love of Harry Potter on their wedding cake (which I thoroughly approved of!). I absolutely love little personal details like this and always make it my mission to capture them all.

There were drinks in the sunshine outside before everyone sat down for the wedding breakfast and the speeches which took place before the meal and between the courses. There were speeches by the bride and groom, both dads, two best men and the bridesmaids (which ended up in a singalong and dance on the stage with Jo joining in!). After this it wasn’t long before the cake was cut and the dancing got going. What an absolutely fabulous wedding day in gorgeous London wedding venues!
