[T]his is my second time this year shooting a wonderful Millbridge Court wedding in Surrey. It’s also the first time I’ve experienced a ceilidh! Why have I never been involved in one of these before?? So much fun and a brilliant experience!
The Wedding Morning
Gillian spent the morning getting ready with her mum and her bridesmaids in the delightful bridal preparation room at Millbridge Court. It even has lights around the mirrors to make you feel like a film star, and a special one-way-glass window which you can use to spy on the guests arriving in the ceremony room below.
Alex and his best man arrived early and sat downstairs nervously going over their speeches before the friends and family began to arrive, several of them in traditional kilts. Gillian’s Scottish heritage was also incorporated into her bouquet and the other flowers where thistle was a main feature.
The ceremony and photos afterwards
The wedding ceremony was beautiful with lots of emotion, shy glances and laughter. Gillian looked utterly stunning, you’ll see her amazing green eyes in the photos below!
Obviously as soon as we wanted to start the group shots the rain started hammering down. Luckily I knew somewhere they could stand under cover, however I wasn’t quite so lucky and got completely soaked! The rain made for some wonderful reflections though during the couple portraits which I wouldn’t have got without it. I think that rain on your wedding day can actually be pretty magical. Especially when the sun eventually breaks through the cloud as it did for Gillian and Alex, that light was incredible.
Later in the day I was super excited for the ceilidh, and WOW, I was not disappointed. People were dancing and twirling in all directions, coming towards me at terrifying speed and then rushing away just as fast. Chains of people looped under the joined hands of others in a slalom that reminded me of country dancing lessons as a child. So much laughter and fun! I can’t wait for my next ceilidh.
