An old friend’s wedding
[W]hen my old friend Isobel messaged me on Facebook from New Zealand, where she has been living for the past few years, to ask me to be her wedding photographer in Liverpool the following January I was so excited! For a start, I LOVE winter weddings. There is something about the light in winter that makes everything look beautiful, and I love the cosy, warm feeling of all the guests having a lovely time while it’s cold and wet outside. It’s also so nice to shoot weddings for people you know. It makes it more personal and relaxed for them to have a familiar face behind the camera, and it’s lovely for me to see them so happy and in love.
I had never shot a wedding in Liverpool before, so this was quite an exciting adventure! We started the day at Isobel’s parents house where both the bride and groom were getting ready together. I adored that house, it was jam-packed full of eclectic bits and bobs, interesting furniture, wooden floors, beautiful fireplaces and stained glass windows, I could have taken photos in there all day! I made sure to get their The Beatles cushion in the background of one of the detail shots. It seemed very appropriate for a Liverpool wedding.
Winter wedding at Oh Me Oh My
Now, Oh Me Oh My is really quite a special venue, they really have made it look stunning. My favourite things about it are the big chunky wooden tables and the amazing festoon lighting that made the place look just magical.
Isobel and Matt had their wedding blessing right there in the venue (they had their official wedding over in New Zealand a couple of months previously) with lots of friends and family, including their little baby William, all in attendance. It was a beautiful ceremony, filled with love and emotion. It was wonderful to see my friend so happy, Matt really is just perfect for her and you can see in his eyes that he adores her.
The wedding reception
My favourite part of the day was the speeches, they were fantastic. Isobel’s sister gave a short but sweet speech before the meal, and then her Dad and Matt spoke after the main meal. Matt’s sister (his “best person”) was made to wait until after dessert to do hers, but you would never have known she was nervous as she was totally hilarious. That is until she had to take a big glug of wine before she got to the emotional bit.
I love weddings where everyone immediately hits the dance floor as soon as the music gets going, and this was most definitely one of those weddings. There were some killer moves being shown off; arms were flailing, hips were shaking and there was some impressive air guitar playing. What a fun winter wedding!
